Recap....
Well, not surprised. Air Canada f*cked me over. I got to wait a week until I get my luggage.
Anyways...
When we were chatting (topics ranged from hipster to archaeology and of course rants about Air Canada.), I heard from the ANA broadcast asking me to go to the reception desk. When I got there, they presented me with another way of getting my luggage; show up at the Wakkanai Airport the next day and ANA will have the luggage ready. Even though, it might had been more work for me but at least I would have my clothes and money, so I said yes.
Before the plane took off, I went to the stores to see if they got any bentos I could buy. Bento is like a meal box. Since I would be eating it on the plane, it is called a sora ben (sora=sky ben=short for bento). They all looked pretty good but I did not want to spend any money until I get my luggage.
The plane ride took about 2,3hours for us to get to Wakkanai Airport. Wakkanai is a small city in Northern Hokkaido but it is probably the biggest city in that area. We only had to wait for a short time for us to get our luggages(no waiting time for me tho). When we were getting our luggage, we saw Wakkanai's mascot sitting on the conveyor belt. The mascot is a mix of seal and seaweed. So...in a way it is like a Bulbasaur. Here's a look. Erin and Deidre are also in the video. The one who has the fruity luggage is Erin.
We stayed for an hour more at the airport to wait for another of our team member. The guy is Dutch and came from Holland via Kansai Airport. Eventually, he arrived and like a typical Dutch, he is tall and blonde.
We took a bus to Wakkanai city center. On the bus, there was an old Japanese couple. They started talking to us in in English after they heard us speaking English. Turned out, they came from Osaka and had learned their English in Nevada during their college days. They told us they were going to stay in Wakkanai and head to Rebun just like us but they came just for a vacation. When I was looking at the scenery from the bus, I really felt like this was something I could see in Taiwan. It reminded of my childhood when my grandpa took me to the beach side.
Back then, everyone had booked a hotel except for Deidre. She thought the one booked by everyone (except me) was a little on the plus side so she wanted to see what other options were there. The place I was staying at was cheaper so she asked if I would not mind sharing the room. I did not see anything wrong with that so I said sure.
When we got off the bus, we decided to go check-in at our hotels first then we would meet up and go for lunch. When Deidre and I were checking in, the receptionist asked me if I was Korean......Just because I have a common Korean name does not mean I am a Korean.
The room we stayed at was a Japanese style room with tatami. A lot bigger than I had thought. Oh ya, it also has a fancy toilet too.
